MOHAMMAD IQBAL
Mohammad Iqbal was born in 1967 in Chuadanga, Bangladesh. He completed his master's in 1989 from the Institute of Fine Arts, now Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, and later in 2003 pursued an ME in fine arts from the Aichi University of Education in Japan. He also completed a doctoral degree in fine arts from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 2010, which further cemented his reputation as a painter who fluidly explores human forms while paying attention to the abstract quality of the painted surface. For his exceptional talent he has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Osaka International Triennale Special Prize in 1993, the Silver Prize at the 14th Shinwa Art Exhibition held in Okayama in 2002, and the International Friendship Award at the Kyoto Arts Festival in the same year, an Honourable Mention Award in the 11th National Art Exhibition in 1994, and the Grand Prize at the 10th and 12th National Young Artists Art Exhibition organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. He received the Japanese government Monbukagakusho scholarship in 1999. Iqbal's achievements continued to grow as he received the Superiority Prize in the Western style painting division at the 19th National Kyoto Cultural Festival in 2004, the Grand Prize in the 14th Memorial Exhibition of Aoki, Kurome City, and the City Mayor Award at the Maebashi Art Camp Live in 2005. Iqbal is currently a member of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka. He showcased his art in a grand solo exhibition at the Edge Gallery in 2019.
